One cold Chicago day, I was at a public library with my kids.
I looked around at all of the children, caregivers & strollers packed into the modest space. I longed for a space that was more comfortable, allowed my kids more freedom and maybe some coffee. I immediately checked out the book “Small Business Startup Kit for Women” and Present Place Chicago was born!
With a background in interior design and early childhood education, I envisioned a space that encourages kids to explore and socialize while their caregivers relax and enjoy adult conversation. Every toy and piece of furniture in our space is something I would furnish in my dream playroom. I chose natural design elements and toys that spark creativity without overloading the senses.
Present Place Chicago got its name on the eve of Mother's Day 2016. I had been exploring ideas for weeks and then I thought: "What do my kids like? Presents!" What else does "present" mean? To be present. Live in the here and now. That's what I felt I was doing by choosing this path to becoming a new business owner, not later, now. It has been quite the journey and I'm happy to share the destination with you!
It’s vital to have a village. We hope to be a part of yours.
